Winner of the 2010 Yvonne A M Smith Charitable Trust Scholarship

The Trustee of the Yvonne A M Smith Charitable Trust is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2010 Yvonne A M Smith Charitable Trust Scholarship is Nicole Alexandra Sharp.

Nicole will be studying a Master of Science in Sustainable Development (Commerce), at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.

Nicole’s background is in accounting and her post-graduate studies will focus on accounting for sustainability. Nicole’s excellent academics, wide range of community and cultural involvement, and potential for leadership in her chosen area, and its potential to improve business practice in New Zealand greatly impressed the interview panel, and they wish her well for her studies beginning at the end of 2010.

Nicole was chosen out of 57 applicants of a very high standard, to be awarded the $50,000 Yvonne A M Smith Charitable Trust Scholarship.

Grant Winner
The quality of applications to this year’s scholarship was extremely high. Accordingly, and with the generosity of Yvonne Smith, the interview panel awarded two further grants.

A grant of $5,000 was awarded to Melanie Rewa Jane Haeata, pursuing a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Waikato. Melanie will be examining the correlational relationship between maternal and paternal pre-natal anxiety in depression within the New Zealand context.

A grant of $10,000 was also awarded to Kate Vivienne Alexander who will be studying Mandarin at Shenzen University in China, and conjointly undertaking a Masters degree in Political Science at Canterbury University. Kate’s research will be looking the social impact of New Zealand companies’ off-shore supply chains, particularly off-shore labour conditions. Kate will be investigating corporate social responsibility initiatives by New Zealand companies in China.
